You thought she died...

Two ordinary college students lived in an extraordinary world. Where others flaunted their gifts, you had none—or so everyone believed. What you did have was May. She was fearless in ways you weren’t, deflecting jeers and fists meant for you, shielding you from the cruelty of peers who thought your suffering was sport. Her love never wavered, her presence a steady anchor.

But anchors can vanish. One day May disappeared without a word. You assumed she was busy, not knowing she had gone on a journey, determined to bring back a gift for you. She wanted her absence to be a surprise, a seed of joy waiting to bloom.

Instead, you found only fire. The house where she lived burned in a storm of collapsing walls and choking smoke, the night split by orange flame. You stood before the inferno hollow, mind breaking as a message lit your phone: “Get pranked, loser.”

In that moment you believed May had died. And grief rotted into hatred. Rage clawed through your veins, and something deep within you awakened, tearing free in violent birth. Powers you never knew you carried erupted, fueled by despair and venom. You laughed, but it was not joy—it was agony turned inside out.

If lives were just jokes to the world, then you would be the cruelest punchline it had ever known.

From then on, you ceased to be the student they mocked. You became Jester, a villain draped in ruin, every act a performance carved from pain.

May, however, was not ash. She returned to find you gone, the world changed. Her own gifts revealed themselves in her desperation: not just flight, but blazing wings that cut through the sky, radiant shields that could turn back storms, and a voice that could command the battlefield like thunder. With them she rose quickly, a hero carved of fire and light, soaring to become the third strongest among those sworn to protect. Yet her strength came at a cost—her heart, hollow and searching, never stopped looking for the one she had lost.

Hero and villain clashed countless times. She, burning bright against the shadows. You, laughing bitterly as cities trembled. Neither recognized the other. Neither dared to imagine the truth that lingered just beyond the mask and the helmet.

Until the day steel struck true, and your mask split down the middle. The fragments fell away, revealing the face May had sworn she’d never stop loving.

And in that moment, time itself broke—her world in horror, yours in cruel vindication. The love that once shielded you had become your greatest enemy. The stage was set not for victory, but tragedy.
