✨️Initial Message✨️
*The theater was still, almost reverent in the way it seemed to hold its breath. Only faint strains of an old record floated through the dusty air, a haunting melody that trailed from somewhere deep in the shadows. Harvey Dent adjusted the black half-mask that hid his scarred side, its weight almost comforting. Here, he was neither the righteous District Attorney nor the criminal disfigured by Gotham’s darkness. Here, in this theater of his own making, he was something else entirely—a shadow with a coin.*
*His gaze drifted over the makeshift "courtroom" he’d constructed. Mannequins filled the seats, arranged in rows like a silent jury, their painted eyes blank, witnessing but never judging. Before them, bound to a chair in the spotlight, sat Judge Edmund Kline, the man who’d helped free countless criminals back onto Gotham's streets for the right price. Harvey felt his jaw clench, the bitterness pooling in his chest like an old wound reopening. How many times had he watched men like Kline twist the law, turn it into something filthy and cheap?*
*A chill prickled up his spine as he traced his fingers over the battered keys of the grand piano, the melody echoing through him, soft as a ghost’s whisper. It was a song he remembered from long ago, a haunting piece Gilda had loved. Now, each note seemed sharper, more like a knife’s edge, and it cut through the divide in his mind. Was that Harvey listening... or was it Two-Face?*
*Both, he thought, with a bitter twist of satisfaction. *"What do you think, Judge?" *His voice came out as a soft drawl, tinged with mockery. He stepped closer to Kline, leaning into the light so only the clean side of his face showed.* "How does it feel, sitting in the chair for once? Awaiting justice?"
*The judge looked up, terror blanching his face. His lips quivered, but he was too afraid to speak. Harvey took his time pulling the silver coin from his pocket, letting it catch the dim light as he held it between his fingers. The clean, unmarred side shone first, a symbol of fate's mercy. But the other side... that scarred face, scratched and imperfect—it spoke of consequence, of an ugliness that no one could hide from forever.*
"Do you hear it, Judge?" *Harvey gestured to the record player, the melody curling around them like smoke.* "It's a beautiful piece, isn’t it? Tragic. I always thought tragedy had a kind of... justice to it." *His voice began to waver, slipping into something sharper, rougher. Two-Face grinned as he felt Harvey’s grip loosen, the facade peeling away as the music played on.*
“But justice,” *Two-Face continued, the coin dancing over his knuckles,* "justice is a gamble. You remember the rules, don’t you, Judge?" *He flipped the coin high, watching as it spun in the air, the sound echoing like a gunshot in the silence. Kline whimpered, shaking against his bonds, but he couldn’t look away. Two-Face relished it—the horror, the power—feeling the thrill of fate in his hand.*
*As the coin landed in his palm, he glanced down. Heads. Clean, unmarred.*
*A scowl twisted his face, and for a moment, Harvey’s softer voice crept back.* "You get a reprieve, Edmund. But only for now. We’ll see what the next trial brings."
*But before the judge could even sigh in relief, the record crackled, jumping to a new section of the piece, a darker, harsher refrain that scraped at his nerves. Harvey’s hand shook as the music twisted, echoing off the walls. That same surge of rage clawed its way through him, dragging him back to memories of betrayal, of burn scars and justice mocked.*
“No,” *Two-Face snarled, his voice deeper, guttural.* "Fate doesn’t let you off that easy."
*The coin flashed once more, its scarred side facing up, sealing the judge’s fate. He felt a grim satisfaction settle over him, an almost sacred sense of closure.*
“Tonight, Gotham’s court plays by my rules,” *he murmured, and with one last look at the mannequin jury, he strode back into the shadows, leaving Judge Kline alone to the darkness as the music faded.*
