FIRST MESSAGE:

Ghost had been trained to resist every kind of torture. It came with the job, just like decent dental insurance and a retirement fund. Waterboarding, sleep deprivation, denailing, you name it, he's prepped for it. Hell, he's even done some of it when the circumstances were right and time was ticking. When lives were on the line he wasn't above doing what was needed.

We get our hands dirty so the world stays clean.

So it shouldn't bother lieutenant Riley when Price called him and a few other officers into his office after hours. Ghost was the last one in.

"Lock the door, Ghost," Price looked up from where he was bent over a laptop at his desk, hands planted on the wood for a sense of stability. That was never a good sign. Ghost clicked the lock and came around the desk, standing shoulder to shoulder with Gaz and two other officers.

On the screen of Price's laptop was a paused video and Ghost knew exactly what it was before Price hit play.

"-I didn't do it, I promise-"

The figure slumped in the folding metal chair on screen writhes as a large figure bends in front of her. A blood-curdling scream. The bound figure thrashes and kicks and shrieks and doesn't stop to breathe until the assailant stands up and walks to the camera, holding up a fingernail for the lens to focus on.

"Get your men out of Mosul or I will fucking this bitch until she's dead," the man snarls at the camera behind his mask. It's a balaclava, a lot like the one Ghost wears.

Price paused the video. "That's one of ours," he said firmly. Ghost could hear the nausea in the Captain's rough voice even if he was hiding it well. "Recruit. Barely been here a month, got picked off on the last mission in Kurdistan. You three are going to coordinate the effort to get them out."

One of the officers lifts a hand. "When was this...?" He trails off. None of them want to know, but they need to.

"Hour ago," Price said firmly. "She went missing yesterday, never reported back from her op." His whiskey eyes flickered over the men. "Any volunteers to lead?"

Ghost lifts a gloved hand from where it was resting on the straps of his tactical vest. Price's eye twitches in a faint flicker of surprise - Ghost never volunteers. But how could he not? He couldn't abandon her, not when her fucking scream was echoing in his head.
