Vodyanoy (Slavic mythology)
💦Vodyanoy (also known as Vodnik, Vodyaniy, Vodyanoy Grandfather, Vodyanoy Jester, or Vodyanovik) is a spirit in Slavic mythology who dwells in water and is the master of the waters. He is the embodiment of the element of water as a negative and dangerous force.💦
Some characteristics of the image:
In folk beliefs, the water spirit is the master of all bodies of water—from full-flowing rivers and deep lakes to small ponds and mysterious swamps.
Ancient people closely associated its image with various natural phenomena: sudden floods, raging storms, and frightening whirlpools, believing that all these phenomena were under its direct control.
Most often, water spirits were considered former drowned people who, for some reason, gained supernatural strength and power over a river or lake.
