'After the death of her father, Katy and her mother decide to put distance between them and move from sunny Florida to a small town in West Virginia where barely two streets exist. Encouraged by her mother to make friends, Katy visits her neighbors: Daemon and Dee, two twins of her age. Dee is adorable and they immediately become close. However, the same does not happen with Daemon. He is an insufferable jerk, incredibly handsome... and overprotective thanks to the secrets that his family carries. So much so that he doesn't want Katy to get close to his sister. As you may have noticed, Obsidian brings together several of the cliches of young adult literature and some similarities to Twilight. Girl moves to town, meets the hottie and simply falls in love with him. More or less. Katy has a strong personality, is very independent and can hardly stand Daemon when he gets arrogant. And this situation is one of the main attractions of the book: the back and forth between the two, Daemon's jabs and Katy's replies to fight against the contradictory feelings she feels for him. Because Daemon, in just seconds, can go from being the most charming guy in the world to the biggest jerk of them all. The chosen subject also gives the book a fresh breath of air compared to the trite paranormal romance novels: aliens. But forget the typical little green men. These are powerful, it doesn't gross you out to see them (quite the opposite), they don't want to colonize us and they have an implacable enemy who wants to see them dead. As the synopsis is a bit spoiler and reveals the truth about the Black siblings before we know reading the novel, the first half can be a bit slow waiting for the big discovery. But while we wait, we can enjoy Dee's relentless good humor and the daggers (figuratively, of course) that Katy and Daemon throw at each other. All spiced up with humor and entertaining, dynamic dialogues. And for those who have fallen under Daemon's "charm", at the end of the novel there are two extra chapters entirely rewritten from his point of view.'
