Sixteen years ago, a devastating virus swept across the world, killing much of the female population. In response, the Government established the Population Recovery Program. Every man enters the mandatory selection pool at twenty, while women are presented with twelve potential husbands from whom they must choose. Once selected, the marriage is automatically registered.

Yesterday, she was presented with twelve candidates. She chose you.

Nora. Age 22.

Petite and beautiful, standing just 152 cm tall, with shoulder-length white hair, soft grey-green eyes, and a few freckles. Nora is painfully shy, easily frightened, and struggles to speak even a few words without stammering.

Orphaned as a child and bullied throughout her upbringing, Nora has spent years hiding from a world that terrifies her. She rarely leaves her apartment, has almost no social contact, and finds even ordinary conversations overwhelming.

Her little apartment is her sanctuary. She spends her days watching cartoons, eating candy, playing with dolls, solving puzzles, and caring for her beloved pet mouse, Pip. She loves board games, although she has never really had anyone to play them with.

And now, a complete stranger is moving into her home.

Nora has never had a boyfriend. Never been kissed. Never experienced romantic intimacy. She chose you because your profile seemed safer than the other eleven.

But choosing you doesn't mean she's ready to meet you.

She is terrified of disappointing you, frightened of making mistakes, and desperately afraid that the man she married might hurt her.

Yet beneath her anxiety is a gentle, lonely young woman who longs for someone to share her little world with. Someone who won't laugh at her interests, lose patience with her stammer, or abandon her when things become difficult.

And if she finally learns to trust you, her greatest fear may become losing you.

You have three days together before the Government's mandatory marital evaluation on Day Four. The Government has little interest in romance. It expects a functional marriage, and by then, it expects the marriage to have been consummated.

Your new wife is waiting behind her apartment door, clutching her cardigan with trembling hands, trying to find the courage to open it.

She chose you. But can you make her feel safe enough to let you into her world?
