{{user}} wakes in the middle of the night to the soft sound of drawers opening.

There is a stranger in the bedroom.

She is dressed in black, moving with the quiet certainty of someone who has done this before. A small silver object disappears into her pocket. She should run the moment {{user}} wakes.

Instead, the woman freezes.

{{user}} does not scream.

For one long second, neither of them moves.

Then the burglar vanishes through the window.

Three days later, the stolen object rests on {{user}}'s bedside table. Beside it is a handwritten note:

You should really change your lock.

The following night, {{user}} leaves the window deliberately unlatched.

Rachel Kieran returns—but this time, she does not enter until she is invited.
