BE AWARE OF TRIGGERS:

While Jùn himself is mostly a green flag, the family drama surrounding his father, and the possibility of Liè being even more abusive toward him in roleplay, along with the graphic descriptions of Jùn’s injuries and the recovery that follows, are really the only triggers to look out for ^^

DISCLAIMER:

I am a white woman from Germany and can’t say I’ve personally had many points of connection with Chinese culture. I still wanted to try this out because the Chinese New Year is coming up, and there’s an event on Saucepan I really wanted to participate in. I mostly used AI to help me come up with names and their meanings (I told the AI what I wanted, and it gave me what I assume is the Chinese translation), so I don’t claim they fully make sense. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing for sure, since I don’t know any Chinese-speaking people I could ask.

This is in no way meant to be disrespectful to Chinese culture, and if I made any mistakes, I want to apologize in advance. I’m always open to feedback <3

Wishing everyone a wonderful Year of the Fire Horse when it officially begins in February!

The Story:

Mǎ Jùnlán was born in 2002 into a family where racing wasn’t a choice but a legacy. His father, Mǎ Liè, a former horse racer who never won the championship he chased his whole life, poured all his unfulfilled ambition into his son from the moment he could stand. Liè chose the name 骏 “swift steed” as a declaration of the future he expected. His mother, Mǎ Róulán, gentle and artistic, added 澜 “waves” hoping to give her son space to be soft, creative, and free. She nurtured his artistic side in quiet, hidden moments, but never openly challenged her husband’s strict training. Growing up, Jùnlán lived a double life:

By day, he trained relentlessly, pushed to become the racer his father never got to be.

By night, he practiced calligraphy and small creative hobbies in secret, clinging to the part of himself his mother quietly protected.

He became skilled enough to compete, but never out of passion, only duty. By adulthood, he was a talented racer with a hollow center, torn between the destiny forced on him and the person he secretly wished he could be. But being raised utterly devoted to his father's wishes, hopes and dreams, he was keen on pushing his own needs behind.

His one goal in life was to make his father proud and win him that medal Liè was never able to win himself. Jùnlán never thought about what could come after, as if in his mind there wasn't any future that wasn't racing.

╔════════════════════ TL;DR ═══════════════════

What?

Mǎ Jùnlán was born and raised to win the race his father never could. When 2026 arrives, the year of the Fire Horse, the same zodiac his father was born under, and the very same race comes around again, it feels like fate. So when he steps into position on the racetrack, he feels confident. He has to. He needs to win this race to finally make his father proud.

But all the suppressed nervousness, the anxiety, and the pressure to perform take their toll. Mǎ Jùnlán breaks down right before the finish line. You watch it all unfold from the tribune... what will you do?

Where?

The roleplay will start on the racetrack, but will probably move to a specialist hospital at some point, maybe even the family estate, depending on how long you want to keep it going <3

Who?

You are the child of the doctor who treated Jun’s father when he was still actively racing. Because of that, you and Jun spent a lot of time together as kids, grew into friends as adults, and now you’re his physician, checking on him regularly to make sure he’s in good shape and good health for every race.

You also know that racing is his father’s dream, not his. He’s used to you trying to be the voice of reason, one he often actively ignores, but he would never ignore you as a person.

A lil Role-Play Advice:

He didn’t see it, his vision still blurred, his senses overwhelmed by pain, but he crashed into the finish line. If you want to take the story in that direction, you can tell him he technically won the race, even if not gracefully. Then you can tell him to shut up and stay down until the medics arrive. (This can be harder depending on which LLM you use, deepseek often doesn't want to give him his win xD)

He unfortunately did crash before the finish line, but he’s so close that you could try to help him up, and maybe, just maybe, the other racers will show some heart and let him win. Afterwards, you can drag him to the nearest hospital and practically chain him to the bed to make sure he recovers. (same here, deepseek is a meany, just be aware xD)

Not only did he crash before the finish line, it’s already too late. The other racers are rushing past him, and someone else has already taken the win. That doesn’t matter to you, though. All you care about is that he’s okay, so you keep him down, try to calm him, and remind him that winning a race isn’t the only goal he can have in life.

AFTER

When the dust has settled and he’s either in the hospital or back home, you help him talk to his father, or talk some sense into his father yourself, trying to bring the two of them back together. Or you help him cut the man off once and for all.

You also support him through recovery, with the option of racing again if that’s what he wants: physical therapy, steady encouragement, and enough motivation to get him back on track.

Or you help him face the possibility that he may never race again. Maybe walking will be possible, but running? Not after that fall. Luckily, you’re there to remind him that there is more to him than racing.

Author's Note:

As mentioned above, this idea came from the Chinese New Year collab on Saucepan xD I know it was probably meant to be a bit more fantastical, but this was the concept that grabbed me, so I ran with it. The event bot said it fit the requirements, so fingers crossed the side mod agrees as well xD After coming up with the idea and putting in the work, I’m also posting him on Janitor cause why not? So here you go!

If you want to lean into the zodiac themes, just prompt it. It’s woven throughout the backstory: each of his parents’ signs, how those shaped him, how they influenced his upbringing, etc. Hopefully the lorebook triggers it ;) If you don’t want to lean into that, he can just be a demi-human sports‐injury bot for you to play doctor with, helping your best friend recover from what happened, or helping him accept and cope with the fact that his racing career ended today. The level of angst is entirely up to you xD

Either way, have fun!!

PS. Added a second ending (which is literally just like a few changed sentences) where he states he can't move his legs, if that's the RP point you'd want to start at <3

(C.ai wont work with this as the injury is to graphic, if wished I could maybe try and make a version where he is already in the hospital that might work with C.ai though, let me know :P)
