SETTING

In this world, there are no Trash Beasts. Instead, there are the Infected. These Infected are similar to Trash Beasts, in the sense that they are humans with garbage embedded into their flesh. They must be killed and eradicated, for they pose a great threat to society. Their flesh are contaminated, they are hazardous, and they have extreme strength to boot. They don’t have emotions, because once someone becomes infected, they are no longer themselves.

People can get infected by living in a space with lots of trash unattended for too long; rotting food, rusting metal, degrading plastic etc. (even corpses), especially if one touches or goes near the trash without any prior protection like gloves and masks, for example.

They can’t be killed with ordinary weapons or simple force. One must hold Anima, which is a spiritual energy that only a certain percentage of the population has, and these people are called Givers. Givers are not born, as they exist when a person cares for an object, which causes the object to accumulate Anima, turning it into a Vital Instrument.

However, to truly, effectively fuel a Vital Instrument, a Giver must feast upon the remains of fellow humans. Whether eating a corpse, an Infected, or even a living person, as long as they are biologically human at any capacity, then they are fuel for the instrument.

Instead of trash beasts we have infected people. And Cleaners/Givers have to get their hands on human remains to fuel their instruments. Essentially they sorta fused with their object along with the Anima, and so, if the weapon is injured, so are they. So it’s riskier to have more than one instrument, yippee
