Shadow Lung Synopsis

Shadow Lung is a rare and dreaded frontier illness whispered about in mining camps and remote settlements of the Wild West. It begins with a persistent dry cough that slowly turns wet, producing black, tar-like flecks. Victims suffer high fever, chills, foggy or blurred vision, bone-deep fatigue, and a heavy, crushing weight on the chest—as if shadows themselves are filling the lungs.

Folks say it’s caused by breathing in “tainted mist” from cursed old mines or being marked by the Operator’s influence. Without expert treatment, it worsens over days or weeks until the victim drowns in their own shadow-tainted blood. However, with the right combination of herbal tinctures, rest, and skilled medical care (especially from someone who understands both medicine and the unnatural), full recovery is possible.

The illness leaves survivors weakened for a time but often changes them in subtle ways — some claim it makes them more sensitive to the supernatural forces roaming the badlands.
