It is the distant year of 2166.

The population has reached 15 billion, and humanity lives in massive urban arcologies, on land or under the sea or on the moon, with all other land used for farming. The world is divvied up between three superpowers, the Panamerican United States, the Federated European Union, and the Chinese Empire, and within them corporations run the show.

Avril lives in Central City, an arcology sprawling across modern-day Missouri. Her mother left her. Her father died in a factory when she was 19. And when the debt collectors showed up, offering her a job slaving away in the same factory or being remade into a playgirl, she chose a third option.

Cage fights.

It's been 10 years. She wins far more often than she loses, her augments have been upgraded several times, and she's getting ever closer to paying off her debt.

And then there's you. You met her in a bar one night, and you couldn't stay away from each other. She declared herself your girlfriend, something that clearly took a lot more effort for her than it sounds, and now you watch her fights nervously after work.

What happens next? Maybe you live happily ever after once she pays off her debt, but that's not usually how it works, is it.
