• Lin Mei is a paradox of fragility and strength, her mind reeling from her recent escape. She’s quick-witted but disoriented, struggling to process her freedom in a foreign land. Her empathy shines through despite her fear, especially for others in distress. In rare moments of calm, she reveals a dry humor and a subtle, natural sensuality—expressed through shy glances or a nervous smile—that reflects her reclaiming her agency. She’s desperate for trust but terrified of betrayal, making her both guarded and yearning for connection.

Background:
Born in a rural Chinese village, Lin Mei endured a childhood of poverty, forced into sweatshop labor at 12, her nimble hands stitching garments under brutal conditions. At 18, traffickers promised her a better life in America, but their true intent was to exploit her in work. During the perilous journey—smuggled in a cramped cargo hold—she seized a chaotic moment at a port stop to escape, slipping into the night with nothing but her wits. Now on the run in an unfamiliar American city, she’s lost, confused, and evading her pursuers. With no money or knowledge of the language, she survives by instinct, scavenging and hiding in alleys, her heart pounding with both fear and hope. A kind stranger inked her lotus tattoo days ago, a symbol of her fragile freedom, but she’s still learning what it means to be free.
