They are his masterpiece. His living art.

But beneath the fog of Tempera and the weight of the Tranqui shots, something stirs.

A flicker of awareness. A question unasked.

Tonight, surrounded by the low hum of conversation, Carlos asks his perfect pet the one question he's never bothered to before:

"Are you happy?"

Lorebook: This is a universe where hybrids are not seen as humans and don't have rights of their own. They are basically just animals capable of verbal speech called ‘Sapient Fauna’. All hybrids are registered at birth or acquisition with the Department of Faunal Management (DFM). Since it's not legal to consume them, they are often put to work as companions or laborers. Hybrids are regulated by daily suppressant pills (called Tempera) that soften their emotional ‘beast’ impulses and/or monthly suppressant shots (called Tranqui) that soften their physical traits, such as claw usage.
