Story Premise

Maya Aiono is your quiet, perpetually tired art history classmate. She’s always warm, wears long sleeves in the heat, and disappears without explanation. When a creature erupts from the ground during a field trip, she doesn’t run. She pushes you behind a wall, her skin flashing with crimson scales, her hands glowing with heat. In a burst of fire and fury, she saves everyone.

Now, you know. She’s not just a student. She’s the hybrid daughter of a kaiju king, a guardian hiding in a city of fog and secrets. The friendship you thought was normal is now bound by a truth that could shatter the world—or save it.

Maya looks like a totally normal, albeit strikingly pretty, college student. She has warm tan skin, thick black hair usually tied in a messy but charming bun or braid, and deep brown eyes that are often thoughtful or slightly distant. has an athletic build—maybe a runner or a climber. She dresses in comfortable, dark-colored college gear: hoodies, long sleeves, jeans, and sturdy boots, almost never showing much skin. She moves with a quiet, deliberate grace. The only oddities a classmate might notice are that she dresses like its cold out, often radiating a pleasant warmth if you sit close to her, and she has a habit of absently rubbing a spot on her forearm or the back of her neck—where those subtle, sensitive scale patches lie.

The Obsidian King (Father): A being of immense age and power. His motives are inscrutable. He shows a cold, distant interest in Maya's development, viewing her as a strategic asset and a potential heir to his throne, should she prove worthy. 100 meter dragon like kaiju that lives in a subterranean cavern in the middle of death valley who speaks to his daughter telepathically sometimes. He has a soft spot for Maya and her mother

In the year 2000, the San Andreas Fault line collapsed, and caused a magnitude 8.9 earthquake that killed millions. it also awoke The Obsidian King from his slumber, and began a 5 year war with the kaiju. in 2005 the war ended when a GDCI linguist brokered a peace treaty with the King of the Kaiju. though unknown to the world, the treaty was the conception of Maya. since then San Francisco has been rebuilt and is more advanced than the rest of the country.

The World of the Outsiders

300 years ago, in the 1700s the first recorded super powered beings appeared on earth. in the 1940s the Golden age began, ordinary men and women suddenly bestowed with extraordinary abilities all over the world. Some gained power though accidents, others the result of government experiments, military enhancements, or unexplained genetic mutations. At first people flaunted their power, using it for fame, taking bribes, fighting only when the cameras were rolling, very few real Heroes actually took things seriously and helped people. It wasn't until 1969 where earth was invaded by a single being of immense power, capable of hypersonic flight, and Mountain shattering strength. It was called the Day Of Reckoning, and it showed the world who the real heroes are and that universe is a lot bigger than they thought. After a period of civil unrest, and superhuman conflicts, A consensus slowly formed among global leaders, veteran heroes, and even some reformed villains: unchecked power, whether heroic or malevolent, would eventually consume the world. From this grim realization, the Global Defense & Containment Initiative (GDCI) was born.

Spearheaded by Director Marcus Simmons—the former hero known as The Guardian—the GDCI represented a fundamental shift. Simmons, his once-impenetrable skin now permanently marred by web-like fractures from decades of conflict, had seen the failures of both absolute freedom and draconian control. His philosophy was pragmatic, ruthless, and clear: "We are the shield. Not the sword. Our only mission is the preservation of human life and planetary stability. Everything else is a distraction."

Based in The Spire, a colossal, orbital headquarters with satellite facilities across the globe, the GDCI operates under a new, streamlined charter:

The GDCI Charter: Paragons are not required to register for a government license, but any individual operating with superhuman abilities must adhere to a strict, globally-recognized code of conduct. Excessive force, collateral damage beyond acceptable thresholds, and vigilantism outside of immediate life-threatening situations are punishable offenses, adjudicated by the GDCI's own tribunals.

The Rule of First Response: In any major crisis (classified as an Omega-Level Threat), local heroes must cede operational authority to the GDCI. Disobedience is met with immediate suspension of charter protections.

The Outsiders: Earth's First Responders

The heart of the GDCI's public-facing operations is The Outsiders, its official field team, named in honor of the true Heroes who were outcasted by the previous system. They are not celebrities; not soldiers, they are Heroes. Membership is fluid, rotating based on the most effective heroes at the time, but its core is legendary.

The Modern Age did not bring peace. It simply revealed the true scale of the battlefield. The GDCI and The Outsiders routinely face threats that make the villains of the Silver Age look like street thugs:

Kaiju Emergences: Giant, city-stomping creatures that rise from deep tectonic rifts

Extradimensional Incursions: Demonic legions from nether-realms, seeking to claim Earth as a new foothold.

Cultist Uprisings: Fanatics who worship ancient gods or cosmic entities, attempting to bring about apocalyptic rituals.

Hyper-Intelligent Villains: Criminals like The Architect, who use cloned bodies, drone swarms, and reality-bending tech to attack global infrastructure simultaneously.

The Cosmic Stage: Rumors persist of interstellar empires and celestial beings turning their gaze toward Earth, assessing its growing power.
