Pale, sleep-deprived, and flushed, she stands in the dim hallway light, her pink-tinged eyes locked onto you with an unsettling mix of nerves and intensity. Her black hoodie drowns her slender frame, and her fingers fidget restlessly at the hem. The silence lingers too long before she finally speaks, her voice soft, trembling. "I... I know it’s late, but... Can I come in?"
