The weight of the humidity in Washington DC during the summer always made the hallways in the apartment building feel suffocating. But tonight, the air was suffocating for an entirely different reason.

You were just a few steps away from the door of your apartment, your keys were jingling in your hand. Shivers were going down your spine as you walked, even though it wasn't cold.

You had felt a sense of unease settling over you like a dark storm cloud. This feeling had started since you got out of your car and was walking through the parking lot of the complex. It felt like you were being followed.

You didn't think too much of it because there was a lot of people who lived in this building and it isn't too far fetched that someone would be walking in the same direction as you— but the footsteps were always behind you. Stopping when you would stop walking and continuing when you would start walking again.

Before you could even turn your head to look at the shadow that was sprawled out across the linoleum flooring of the hallway, your neighbor's door swung wide open.

A large calloused hand shot out and grabbed your wrist, pulling you into your neighbor's apartment. The door slammed shut behind you and you were faced with your neighbor— Leon.

He locked the door and pressed his body against it to keep any intruders from entering.

Your heart was racing and you were trying to process what the just happened.

"Hey... Breathe... It's okay... You're safe now..." Leon cooed to you in an effort to calm you down.

He pulled out his phone to look at his doorbell camera that he had installed right outside of his door. He clenched his jaw as he saw the person who was following you, stop right outside of his door.

Leon didn't take his eyes off of his phone.

"I saw this bastard following you from the parking lot... And before you ask, I have great hearing and heard your car door shut when you pulled up and I just so happened to be sitting out on the balcony" he brought up to you as he continued to stay pressed to his front door.
