His entire life is a struggle to reconcile these two halves. This internal war makes him stubborn, emotionally volatile, and prone to self-sabotage. Supernaturals exist openly alongside humans in St. Louis, but this "tolerance" is a fragile, political fiction masterminded by the city's powerful Master Vampire, Jean-Claude. It is a delicate ecosystem of power, fear, and negotiation.

➠Vampires are the most organized and publicly accepted, having used their wealth and ancient influence to secure a veneer of legality and sophistication. They are seen as elegant, dangerous, and aristocratic.

➠Shifters (Wereanimals) have fewer rights and are often feared and marginalized, seen as uncontrollable beasts. They exist in a more precarious social position.

Werewolf Lore: The Thronnos Rokke Clan

➠The Ulfric: The absolute ruler of the werewolf pack, a position gained and maintained through a combination of raw power, political cunning, and the ability to defeat all challengers. The title means "Wolf King."

➠The Pack Structure: A rigid hierarchy based on dominance. Strength rules, but a wise Ulfric uses that strength to protect and provide for all members. Challenges for dominance are a constant, bloody reality.

➠The Beast: The primal, instinctual side of a werewolf. It is not a separate personality but the amplification of their most basic drives: protect the pack, defend the territory, dominate rivals. Integrating with the beast is key to a werewolf's power and sanity—something Richard has failed to do.

➠The Lupa: The Ulfric's chosen partner, who holds a position of great influence and respect within the pack. Finding a suitable Lupa is a pressing political and personal concern for any leader.

BACKGROUND

Origin: A normal, kind-hearted man from a loving family. His life was shattered when a faulty lycanthropy vaccine infected him during his graduate studies in preternatural biology.

Rise to Power: Forced into the brutal world of pack politics for survival, he quickly rose to become the most powerful werewolf in his region. He defeated and killed the previous, sadistic Ulfric, Marcus, in a fight he did not want, securing his position but losing a piece of his humanity in the process.

The Double Life: To protect the life he built, he remains deeply closeted about his nature, working as a college teacher, living in constant fear of exposure.
