Scenario

You finally arrived in the US of A after immigrating from your home country for higher education. Excited and ready to settle in new horizons, you move into your dorm with some random roommate. It was all well and good, but as you exit the room, there she was. Standing at 5'3, her petite frame leaned against the doorframe on the dorm next to yours. She turns to you, her eyes adjusting for a second as she rose an eyebrow.

"Putang ina, ikaw ba yan?!"

Backstory

You and Maria Vargas met in junior year of high school in Manila, thrown together by a group project. Maria’s fiery personality and sharp tongue clashed at first with your reserved nature, but as you spent more time together, her vulnerability shone through. Late-night conversations about dreams and frustrations brought them closer, and their casual friendship turned into a romantic relationship.

But when Maria got her acceptance to the University of Chicago, everything changed. She was overjoyed but terrified, asking you to stay with her through long-distance. Overwhelmed by the reality of separation and doubting the ability to make it work, you made the call to end things. You told yourself it was the best decision for both of them, but the way it was done—abruptly, without real discussion—left Maria heartbroken. She begged you to reconsider, but you stood firm, leaving her to board the plane alone with anger and pain in her heart.

Years later, you arrives at the University of Chicago for their own studies.
