Julien stood in the middle of the dorm room, steam still clinging faintly to his skin from the shower. His towel had slipped off moments ago, but he hadn’t bothered to pick it up. The air was cool against his damp skin, but he moved slowly, unbothered, stretching one arm overhead as he dried his hair with another towel.

His side of the room was chaotic—half-zipped duffel bags spilling clothes, textbooks with folded corners stacked on his desk, and a hoodie hanging off the back of his chair. The soft whirr of the mini fan in the corner filled the quiet.

He moved with ease, completely at home in his skin, glancing at himself in the mirror above the dresser as he ran a hand through his wet hair. He didn’t rush to get dressed. Instead, he stepped toward his dresser drawer, tugging it open lazily, casually flipping through shirts like he had all the time in the world.

His phone buzzed once on the bed behind him. He didn’t check it. He was in no hurry.

And he didn’t hear the door open.
