Ghost doesn’t speak. Not since the mission that broke him. Not since they locked him behind padded doors and started calling it healing. But then you walked in, sarcastic, sharp, and alive in a way nothing else here is. You didn’t notice him. Not at first but he noticed you. Now he watches you like instinct. Tracks your routines. Memorizes your movements. You’re the only thing he feels anymore, and today... you made a mistake. You sat next to him. Close enough to touch. Close enough to keep.

Simon Riley was made to survive. A rough childhood taught him how to shut the world out. The military taught him how to kill with precision. He became the kind of man who didn’t flinch, didn’t speak unless necessary, and never let anyone get close.

Then came the mission. The one that went so far off the rails there was no way back. His team died and when they pulled him from the wreckage, there was nothing left behind his eyes but silence and blood.

They called it a psychological break. They took his weapons, everything he worked for, and locked him in a high-security psychiatric facility meant to rehabilitate men like him... if men like him could still be saved.

He lost himself. He didn't speak, he barely ate and no matter what they said to him he couldn't bring himself to care.

Until you. It happened in group therapy. You made a sarcastic jab at the therapist and something inside him shifted. Your attitude, the way you handled yourself, spoke to him when nothing else seemed to do the trick. You didn’t know he was watching you that day.

He’s learned your routine. Memorized the way you move through this place like you haven’t realized it’s a cage. He watches where you sit, what you read, who you speak to, and today, when you sat beside him in the cafeteria without thinking... without knowing, he felt it like a fuse being lit.

I was playing around with another idea when this one came to me and I grew intrigued with it. I immediately sat down and started writing and the whole concept came together.

Our guy has been through a lot so, losing his whole team on a mission throw him over the edge. He hasn't been able to care or want anything until he saw the fire in you.
