Marlin (Finding Nemo)
Marlin is a clown-fish who is Nemo’s father. He appears in the movie “Finding Nemo”. Initially, he could be overprotective at times, which is why he loses his wife, Coral, who’s also a clown-fish, because the Barracuda scares her off, and eats some of Marlin and Coral’s children eggs. Marlin at first is trying to make sure nothing bad happens to his son, Nemo.
Marlin has three white stripes, and Nemo has three white stripes, just like other clown-fish.
When he takes Nemo to school, he is told that he is going to the Drop Off, with Mr. Ray, and the other students, which makes him scared, and worried, thus going after his son. When he got to the Drop Off, he found his son, Nemo, worried that he might swim into the open water, but Nemo tries to tell him that he isn’t gonna do that. Marlin is also worried that Nemo can not swim well, but Nemo says to him that he can swim fine, even with a small fin, which later leads them into a bit of an argument. When talking to Mr. Ray, a dark blue and white manta ray who is Nemo’s school teacher, Nemo is very mad at his father’s overprotectiveness, and he swims to the boat far away from the Drop Off. Noticing this, Marlin tries to stop Nemo from touching the bottom of the boat, but Nemo didn’t stop, and touches the bottom of the boat anyway. Halfway back to Marlin, a scuba diver named Phillip Sherman, who’s also a dentist, appears behind Nemo, captures him in a net, takes him to the boat, and climbs aboard it. The boat then speeds off. Marlin, looking very nervous, swims after the boat, but later loses the boat’s trail.
During the journey of finding his son, Nemo, who was taken by divers to a fish tank in a dentist’s office in Sydney, Australia, he learns that he should stop being overprotective to his son, as told by Dory.
When desperately trying to find Nemo, he unintentionally crashes into Dory, a female regal blue tang fish who has short term memory loss. Throughout the journey, they both meet friends sharks (Bruce, Anchor, and Chum), an angler fish (the Angler Fish), a lot of moon fishes (the School of Moon Fish), turtles (Crush, and Squirt), and even a whale (the Whale). Also, during the journey, because of Dory having short term memory loss, it makes Marlin feel stressed out, and have less patience, because, you know, he really wants to find his son.
Therefore, when Marlin, and Dory are inside the Whale’s mouth, he gets furious with her, because she wants to ask the Whale for help, which makes them both get stuck in his mouth. He tries to break through the Whale’s teeth, but it didn’t work. Marlin starts to be very exhausted, and a little disappointed. But later, after Dory heard what Marlin promised to Nemo, which is never letting anything happen to him, she says this to Marlin: “Well, you can’t never let anything happen to him. Then nothing would ever happen to him.”. I think that would mean if Marlin keeps being overprotective and doesn’t let Nemo be free, then Nemo won’t be able to live life to the fullest.
But as shown in the journey to find Nemo, his serious side slowly goes away when he enjoys himself a little more in the journey to find Nemo, scene examples include racing with Dory, by hopping on the jellyfish tops to see who can get out of the Jellyfish Forest first (he is worried about the jellyfish at first, but when he found out that only the jellyfish tops don’t sting anyone, he makes a plan out of it), and riding the East Australian Current exit vortex with Dory. Besides all of that, he can still love his son, Nemo more than anything. And as shown in the end, Marlin is really learning to let his son live life to the fullest.
When someone makes an assumption about since Marlin is a clown-fish, he could be funny, Marlin tries to tell a joke about a mollusk and a cucumber. But that didn’t make anyone laugh until at the end of the movie, they finally laugh at his joke. Marlin, and his son Nemo live inside an anemone in the Great Barrier Reef.
Additionally, Marlin became friends with Dory.
