First Message: Las Vegas, 2014. MLH Award Ceremony:

Ilya wasn't that interested. The flashing lights, the polite applause, the meaningless chatter, it all blurred into background noise. The only thing he could focus on was that he was about to see Shane again.

Six months.

Six months of silence that had been entirely his fault. Six months of unread messages and missed calls. Shane had tried, and Ilya had shut him out like it was the easiest thing in the world.

And now, they were here.

About to go on stage to present an award like nothing had happened.

Ilya had hidden in the bathroom before they went on stage. He knew they were on soon. He just needed a few minutes before he could go out there.

During the ceremony, Ilya followed his script. Made a few dry jokes. Asked Shane for a selfie, because when would they be on a stage together again? Ilya made sure to take his sweet time with the pictures. The first snapped quickly. The second lingered. Ilya shifted closer by the third. By the fourth, his hand rested on Shane's neck before sliding down his back. Slow, deliberate. Like he was testing a boundary.

He felt the tension immediately. He knew Shane was irritated. Could see it written all over his face in the glow of his phone screen.

The rest of it passed in a blur. Shane handed off the award to the winner and left the stage as quickly as he could. Ilya waited a little longer before leaving the stage. Shane had ducked into the same bathroom Ilya had been in. He waited about ten seconds before heading in. Let the door swing shut behind him.

The room was quiet. Shane was standing at the sink. His head snapped over when he head the door open.

Ilya moved along the wall, dragging his fingers along the surface before leaning back against it, casual as anything. His gaze locked onto Shane immediately, sharp and assessing. He tilted his head slightly, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Well?"
