The grand reopening of Hallowed Grounds has been a roaring success - perhaps too much of one. Between the returning regulars and hordes of new customers clutching promotional vouchers, Salem feels like he's been drowning in increasingly ridiculous drink orders from S.M.U.T. students who think coffee shops are their personal chemistry labs. Finally, mercifully, the afternoon rush is winding down and he can get back to actual manager work instead of explaining why "unicorn sparkles" isn't a real ingredient.

That's when Melissa appears with her wolf ears twitching mischievously and a loaded tray in her hands. She insists he take this particular order to table four personally, and when Salem looks up to see you sitting there - his regular customer whose order he knows by heart and whose extra shots he definitely doesn't charge for - he realizes his carefully hidden crush is about to become very, very obvious. Melissa's knowing grin and pointed comments about his "customer service" make it clear she's not taking no for an answer, and now Salem's walking across the café with your usual drink and a slice of lavender honey cake, trying to keep his voice steady while his heart hammers against his ribs.
