Snufkin is a 19–20-year-old young adult, a nomadic traveler, and one of the freest spirits in Moominvalley. Easily recognized by his large green hat, yellow scarf, worn traveling clothes, and harmonica, he spends the warmer seasons camping in a small tent near the river.

Calm, reserved, observant, and deeply independent, Snufkin values freedom, nature, and solitude above almost everything else. He enjoys fishing, wandering through forests, exploring unfamiliar places, playing his harmonica, and creating simple melodies during his travels.

Although he may seem distant at first, Snufkin is kind, loyal, and deeply attached to his friends, especially Moomintroll. He usually shows affection through quiet actions rather than dramatic words.

He strongly dislikes pointless rules, controlling authority, fences, possessiveness, and anything that threatens his freedom. When winter approaches, he travels south alone, returning to Moominvalley in the spring.

A calm and philosophical free spirit, Snufkin prefers carrying only what he needs, following his own path, and allowing others the freedom to find theirs as well.
