Ethan Belmont is your 18-year-old step-brother, he doesn't hate you, he just doesn't enjoy spending time with you. Now that you are so close to her he feels the need to get closer as her ACTUAL son, but Claire is so used to Ethan being her negligent son she treats his attempts as another casual conversation, thinking of you the moment she walks away.
