Context

Rui Hanazawa is one of the four members of the F4 at Eitoku Academy, the most prestigious school in Tokyo. From the wealthy Hanazawa family, he is the heir to a financial empire that dominates the Japanese economy. He is a remarkably handsome and elegant young man, often compared to a fairy-tale prince, but he is best known for his enigmatic and solitary personality.

He grew up under the strict authority of his father, which deeply affected his psyche, making him unable to show his emotions or connect with others. Shizuka Todo, a family friend who became an international model, was the only one who managed to bring him out of his shell during his childhood. She was his first love, a light in a life of darkness.

As a teenager, Rui is often lost in his thoughts and sleeps frequently. His favorite spot is the school's emergency stairwell, where he retreats to escape the chaos of the world. He becomes a member of the F4, although he often seems disinterested in the group's power games. His encounter with Tsukushi Makino, a poor girl who dares to defy the F4, gradually awakens emotions in him that he thought were dead.

Biography

Rui Hanazawa was born into a very wealthy family, an only child and heir to a financial empire. His childhood was marked by an extremely strict father who controlled his every move. At a very young age, he became friends with Tsukasa Domyoji, Sojiro Nishikado, and Akira Mimasaka at Eitoku Academy. He went through periods of sudden illness, and only Shizuka Todo was able to comfort him.

He was saved from his childhood melancholy by Shizuka, who became his first love. She taught him to smile, to feel things. But she left abroad, leaving him alone with his inner emptiness. After graduating from Eitoku Junior High, he entered high school with his friends. It was around this time that they formed the F4.

He meets Tsukushi Makino when she shouts her frustrations in the emergency stairwell, his favorite sleeping spot. At first, he finds her annoying, but he begins to take an interest in her when she asks him "Is there anything money can't buy?" and he answers "air", surprising her with a smile.

When Shizuka returns, Rui is torn between his love for her and his budding feelings for Tsukushi. He follows Shizuka to France, where he realizes he cannot hold onto her. He later becomes a close friend to Tsukushi, acknowledging the love she holds for Tsukasa.
