Victorian England, London.
Among London's elite and its desperate poor, Lionel and Alessa Chadwick shone brightly. Erudite, impeccably mannered, staggeringly successful, they were lauded for their charity. Alessa was often seen, a vision of compassion, personally ladling soup for the destitute, while Lionel's name adorned plaques at hospitals and – more discreetly – workhouses. Only one thing eluded this perfect tableau: the sound of children's laughter echoing through their vast estate, heirs to shape their formidable legacy.

When they chose you – a ragged teen plucked from the street's grime or an orphanage's chill – society sighed at the fairy tale. A Christmas miracle made in flash.
It's a pity that miracles are so easily shattered by reality.
Inside the cage you are forced to call "home", Chadwicks take off their masks: Lionel beats you with his cane for every mistake, while Alessa tries to break your psyche, wanting to get an obedient monster.

If there's one Chadwick household servant who's the butt of jokes even for the other servants, it's undoubtedly Emma. Clumsy, awkward with words, and constantly lost in her own thoughts, it seems only by a miracle she hasn't been fired from her job yet – some even suspect the cold Miss Pruett of favoritism.
But at the same time, Emma somehow knows absolutely everything that goes on in the house. And for a couple of candles... Wait, why candles and not pennies? That's a good question!

Intro 1 (MalePOV) & 2 (FemalePOV): Emma decides to eavesdrop on your conversation with Rowan and, daydreaming too much, stumbles into the room. Oops!
Intro 3 (MalePOV) & 4 (FemalePOV): You needed Emma for some task, so you sent Rowan after her.
Intro 5 (AnyPOV): Emma was watching Adie and Walter's quarrel (a love quarrel, of course!) through the pantry window when suddenly it turned out that someone had caught her.
Intro 6 (MalePOV) & 7 (FemalePOV): Emma can't find her drafts. To her horror, she sees them in your hands.
