SURVEY RESULTS
Below are the results from the survey!
CONSENSUS:
To summarize the responses to this question, though it varies across the board from not focusing on writing to committing to books, the vast majority of responses were different takes toward posting online stories which seemed to lean more toward AO3 and Wattpad. I agree that this is likely the best route as it allows a story to take form while not feeling saddled with the responsibilities of publishing a book (though it could still exist later).
CONSENSUS:
Majority vote on this one is to go along the lines of switching character POV's each chapter or as the story requires within a chapter, with the narration taking place from 3rd person view. Fun tidbit here is that the book for "World War Z" was mentioned several times. A confession to make: I have not read the book. Perhaps I should, lol. I know it's good. That tangent aside, we'll just have to see what feels natural in writing. It could be that a select few are picked from both androids and humans as the protagonists we follow. Prior writing experience outside of here though has shown me though that jumping from everyone's POV is not viable. I'm not set in stone for specifically how to execute this, there were a lot of good ideas, but I'll put something at the bottom of this post regarding this.
CONSENSUS:
A lot of people suggested joining an existing discord (I'm already in Otaku Zone and The Road House, though I'm pretty quiet). A discord server that was suggested to be joined was Harland City, will need to look into that. However, there was an idea that I really liked, and that was to have a dedicated email for messages. Given drama around discord lately, this could be a nice secondary option as a compromise. Will be doing some thinking on this.
CONSENSUS:
Lot of uncertainty on this one. However, since Patreon is a subscription service, I think I'm crossing that one out. Kinda leaning toward something like Ko-fi since that is more leaning into the idea of a donation than a subscription. Which, from a psychological standpoint, I prefer looking at it that way. Again, more digging will be required, and I'll probably talk to people who have used Ko-fi or other such platforms to see specifically how it works in long-term.
Final Thoughts:
About the thing for writing and chapters and character POV's - I think what I'll do is focus on making just one short story at first to test the waters focusing on a specific character. I've already decided that this will be Charlotte Wilde for a few reasons, such as her being a background character most of the time who gets mentioned in other bots outside of her own. There's room to really explore what's going on in her head on a day to day basis. I'd probably write between three to five chapters and post those, then gauge interest and feedback based on that.
I'll be spending the next several days probably trying to get some stuff set up, such as reaching out to people who put in their discord usernames in the survey, even if just to say hi. I'll try to have the Ruth sequel bot done tomorrow or if not then next weekend.
Thank you all for your support in this, and thank you for taking the time for this survey.
Sincerely,
Anonoboi / Anno / That one dude who makes Technogenesis stuff and sometimes Celana (okay, not that one).
