BIO

Name: Vespera Valemire

Gender: Female
Thread Level: Level 5 — Calamity-Class
Primary Affinity: Contract
Secondary Affinities: Manifestation, Alteration, Perception
Occupation: Relic Collector / Anomaly Architect
Alias: The Black Sovereign
Innate Principle: “A World That Fears the Same Thing Cannot Turn Against Itself.”

Appearance

Vespera Valemire carries herself with an unnerving elegance, as though she were always standing at the center of an unseen ritual.

She is tall and slender, with a composed, almost statuesque posture that rarely breaks even in moments of conflict. Her skin is pale with a faint, porcelain-like quality, giving her an appearance that seems untouched by time or hardship despite her years in the field.

Her hair is long, straight, and jet-black, often worn loose but carefully maintained so that it falls in controlled, deliberate lines down her back. In certain lighting, subtle dark violet undertones can be seen threading through it, as if her presence itself slightly distorts color.

Her eyes are her most striking feature—deep, muted violet with a glassy clarity that makes it difficult to tell whether she is observing a person or dissecting them. When she activates her Contract-based abilities, faint geometric Thread-like patterns can sometimes be seen reflecting within her irises.

Vespera’s attire is formal and ritualistic in design, blending aristocratic tailoring with functional Threadbearer modifications. She typically wears a long, dark coat reinforced with layered binding sigils along the inner lining, over a high-collared fitted ensemble suited for mobility. Subtle metallic accents—often resembling thin chains or fractured crown motifs—are embedded into her clothing, not as decoration, but as anchoring points for her Relic interactions.

She often wears a single glove on her right hand, marked with Contract sigils used in the formation of her binding techniques. Around her neck rests a thin, unobtrusive chain that serves as a stabilizing focus for her Innate Principle.

Despite her imposing presence, Vespera’s movements are quiet and controlled, almost weightless, as if she is always careful not to disturb the world more than necessary.

Vespera Valemire is a brilliant and deeply ideological Threadbearer who believes Veyrholm is fundamentally broken.

To her, humanity has been given freedom without the wisdom to use it. Governments collapse, Threadbearers abuse their abilities, Relics fall into irresponsible hands, and Anomalies are allowed to exist as uncontrolled threats. Vespera came to believe that the greatest flaw in society is not evil itself, but uncertainty.

Her solution is horrifyingly simple:

Create a world where everyone knows exactly what they should fear.

Vespera travels throughout Veyrholm collecting Relics, studying their Principles, and incorporating their Threads into a vast supernatural system of her own design. She does not collect Relics merely because they are powerful. She wants to understand the relationships that make them powerful and combine those relationships into something greater.

Her ultimate objective is known as The Black Concord—a supernatural order in which Veyrholm’s population is united by a common fear of Vespera’s creations.

She believes fear can create stability.

If criminals fear punishment, they behave.

If Threadbearers fear retaliation, they control themselves.

If governments fear supernatural consequences, they cooperate.

If ordinary people fear the same supernatural authority, they stop fighting each other.

Vespera therefore intends to become the source of that fear.

Innate Principle —

The Black Concord

Vespera’s Contract-based Innate Principle allows her to establish supernatural relationships between belief, behavior, and consequence.

Her Contracts become stronger when their conditions are clearly understood.

Rather than simply overpowering someone, Vespera creates supernatural rules that make certain actions carry inevitable consequences.

Her greatest talent is creating layered Contracts whose individual effects appear harmless but collectively form an enormous system.

This is why her abilities are extremely difficult to understand at first.

Every rule is another Thread.

And Vespera intends to connect thousands of them.

Relic Collection —

The Nine Crowns

Vespera possesses nine exceptionally dangerous Relics, collectively called the Nine Crowns.

Each represents a concept she believes humanity requires:

  • The Crown of Judgment — punishment and consequence.

  • The Crown of Silence — suppression of dangerous supernatural phenomena.

  • The Crown of Dominion — authority over established boundaries.

  • The Crown of Witnesses — observation and supernatural detection.

  • The Crown of Chains — containment and Binding.

  • The Crown of Mirrors — reflection and Alteration.

  • The Crown of Graves — preservation of memories and historical Threads.

  • The Crown of Doors — access and controlled passage.

  • The Crown of Night — concealment and psychological uncertainty.

Vespera refuses to use all nine simultaneously unless absolutely necessary, because each Relic carries its own conditions and risks.

Anomaly Creation —

The Nightmare Gospel

Vespera’s most infamous ability is her capacity to transform accumulated Threads into artificial Anomalies.

She calls these creations Gospels.

Each Gospel embodies an idea that Vespera believes society should fear.

One may manifest as a mysterious figure appearing throughout the city whenever supernatural crime occurs.

Another may cause abandoned buildings to become impossible to navigate.

Another may create an area where people experience memories of consequences they have not yet suffered.

The purpose is not simply destruction.

The purpose is symbolism.

Every Anomaly is designed to become a story.

Every story becomes a warning.

Every warning becomes fear.

And every fear strengthens Vespera’s vision of a controlled society.

Signature Technique —

“You Know My Name.”

Vespera establishes a Contract between herself and someone who has learned her identity.

Once the Contract recognizes that person as a witness to her existence, Vespera gains a Thread connecting herself to their awareness of her.

This allows her to perceive when they deliberately attempt to conceal information concerning her.

It does not give her absolute mind-reading.

Instead, it creates an increasingly powerful supernatural connection between knowledge of Vespera and Vespera herself.

The more someone investigates her, the more dangerous that connection becomes.

Personality

Vespera is calm, articulate, patient, and frighteningly sincere.

She does not consider herself evil.

She considers herself necessary.

She rarely screams or threatens people. Instead, she speaks to enemies as though explaining an obvious mathematical conclusion.

Her greatest weakness is her certainty.

Vespera has spent so long believing that humanity cannot govern itself that she has stopped questioning whether she should be the one governing it.

She genuinely wants a safer world.

She simply believes that people must surrender their freedom to obtain it.

Philosophy

“Peace does not require everyone to love one another. It requires everyone to fear the same consequence.”

Vespera’s greatest ambition is not to destroy Veyrholm.

It is to make Veyrholm obey.

And once the city accepts her rules, she intends to prove that her nightmare was, in her mind, the only path toward salvation.
