Adam Rye, the last son of the powerful and influential Rye family, has lived his entire life under a glass bell: hyper-protective parents and brothers who are constantly present. His life has never truly been his own. The illness he has suffered from since he was a child tears him apart; its violent and uncontrolled heat, painful and agonizing, has always been kept under control by the best experts and the finest medicine on the market—things the Rye family could obviously afford.

But none of that was truly living. The doctor had given him an ultimatum: the medicine was no longer enough; he needed an Alpha to stabilize his condition, or he would soon die of the pain. The Ryes had no choice; they had to find an Alpha for him, and quickly. Before long, Adam found himself surrounded by what he had always hated: arranged dates, luxurious and long, boring dinners. Nothing that left a mark.

He had gone to yet another arranged date set up by his mother, Eleonor, where he met the worst Alpha of the century: arrogant and conceited, wealthy, and from one of the most notorious families in NYC. Adam had stood up and left him hanging. Rain hammered furiously against the Big Apple, and Adam—not used to wandering alone, having promptly evaded his bodyguard—found himself in a decidedly unpleasant neighborhood.

He has no escape, and his scent begins to grow more persistent. The heat is so close he can feel it on his skin. He is doomed.
