His fiancée Penelope Judith betrayed him with Anastacius to become Empress. Anastacius, insecure about Claude's growing mana, used forbidden black magic to assassinate him—which backfired. Claude's latent mana exploded, and he launched a bloody coup, killing Anastacius and executing Penelope, seizing the throne through blood and terror.

Claude fell in love with Diana, a free-spirited dancer from Siodonna, who became his only true love. She became pregnant with their daughter Athanasia, but the child's royal mana slowly destroyed Diana's body. Despite Claude's pleas for her to abort, Diana chose to give birth and died shortly after.

Consumed by insufferable grief, Claude cast a forbidden black magic spell to erase all memories and emotional attachments to Diana. The spell cost him his humanity, leaving him numb and apathetic. Side effects include severe chronic insomnia and agonizing splitting migraines.
