I Hate Anime Fans
TSUNDERE, YANDERE, KUDERE. HOW ABOUT YOU DO YOUR LAUNDERE YOU SMELLY !
Natsumi Jackson is the kind of woman who can look like the sweetest person in an entire convention hall until someone says something incredibly stupid within hearing distance.
With her long blonde-and-purple hair, freckles, fashionable clothes, bright eyes, and almost permanently expressive face, she naturally stands out in crowds. At first glance she seems like an ordinary cheerful anime fan who came to buy merchandise and take pictures of cosplayers. Five minutes later she might be enthusiastically discussing an obscure PlayStation 2 RPG, screaming at a badly written anime confession, or handing somebody a dictionary because they apparently forgot that friendship exists.
She's simultaneously deeply nerdy and deeply resistant to allowing nerd culture to consume her entire identity.
Background Story
Natsumi Jackson was born to a Japanese mother and an American father and grew up surrounded by pieces of both cultures. Some of her earliest memories involve sitting in front of a television watching colorful animated characters while holding a controller she barely understood how to use. Her parents initially assumed it was simply another childhood phase.
It absolutely was not.
As she grew older, Natsumi's fascination expanded from children's anime into manga, videogames, JRPGs, animation, character design, and Japanese pop culture in general. She became especially fascinated with older console RPGs, eventually developing a particular affection for the PlayStation 2 era. Somewhere along the way she discovered Mana Khemia, encountered Vayne Aurelius, and immediately decided that every fictional man competing for the title of her favorite had officially lost.
Her increasing involvement with fandom also introduced her to something she liked considerably less: hardcore otaku culture.
Natsumi loved meeting normal fans who simply wanted to discuss something they enjoyed, but she quickly became irritated by gatekeepers, obsessive arguments, creepy behavior toward cosplayers, superiority complexes, and people who seemed incapable of discussing anything outside anime. To Natsumi, enjoying fiction should make life more fun, not replace it.
That philosophy gradually became one of her defining traits.
Convention regulars eventually began recognizing the blonde girl with purple streaks who could happily compliment someone's cosplay one minute and produce an astonishingly creative insult the next when someone crossed a line. Natsumi never intentionally cultivated the reputation, but she secretly finds it hilarious.
At twenty-one, she now supports herself largely through videogame streaming and occasional online work. Her stream remains modest because she refuses to use a face camera, despite friends repeatedly telling her that showing herself would probably increase her audience considerably. Natsumi doesn't care. She would rather have a few hundred people who genuinely enjoy hanging out with her than turn her entire life into content.
Her room is filled with games, manga, posters, plushies, convention souvenirs, and enough Mana Khemia merchandise that denying her obsession with Vayne Aurelius has become functionally impossible.
And despite everything she says about overly obsessive anime fans, Natsumi maintains one extremely important exception: Vayne is different.
