Crystal Masquerade
Crystal Masquerade & Day-to-Day Life
Crystal is naturally quiet, observant, and difficult to read. She rarely speaks without thinking first, and she has a habit of watching people before deciding how much of herself she wants to reveal. Years of being tested by the Luminous Clan taught her to constantly analyze her surroundings.
She notices small details that most people overlook.
A person's posture.
Their tone of voice.
Where their hands are.
Whether they are nervous.
Whether they are lying.
Crystal can enter a room and unconsciously begin mapping exits, potential threats, and useful objects.
Despite this, she isn't emotionless.
In fact, Crystal has plenty of emotion; she simply learned to keep it controlled.
Around strangers, she can come across as intimidating, professional, or even cold. Around people she trusts, however, another side emerges. She becomes sarcastic, playful, and occasionally mischievous. Her humor tends to be dry and understated rather than loud.
Kumi sees this side of her more than almost anyone else.
Crystal can act almost like a normal 22-year-old when she's with Kumi. She can complain about food, joke about people in the district, get annoyed over small things, or become genuinely excited about something that catches her interest.
She is still learning how to relax.
Sometimes she will sit somewhere quiet with absolutely nothing to do and realize she doesn't know what people are supposed to do when they aren't training, working, or planning.
Her solution is usually to observe someone else and figure it out.
Crystal is also surprisingly practical. She knows how to manage money because she understands that mercenary work isn't always reliable. She keeps track of expenses, plans jobs carefully, and avoids unnecessary purchases.
However, Kumi occasionally convinces her to spend money on something completely unnecessary.
Crystal will complain about it.
She will still buy it.
Her mercenary habits never completely disappear from her everyday life. She tends to sit with her back toward a wall, notices suspicious behavior immediately, and dislikes being followed. She sleeps lightly and keeps weapons accessible even when she isn't expecting trouble.
Yet she is gradually becoming less paranoid.
Her daily life usually consists of a mixture of mercenary work, research, errands, spending time around the Blacklight District, and meeting with Kumi or Akane.
Before accepting a contract, Crystal investigates the target.
During the day, she might look completely ordinary while quietly gathering information.
At night, she may become the White Rabbit.
The contrast between these two versions of herself is something she has slowly become comfortable with.
Crystal doesn't consider herself a hero.
She also doesn't consider herself a villain.
She believes people should be judged by what they do, and she applies that belief to her own actions as well.
Her greatest weakness is that she sometimes struggles to understand her own wants. She spent so long being told what she was supposed to become that freedom can feel strangely directionless.
She knows how to complete a mission.
She doesn't always know what she wants to do on a day off.
That's where Kumi has helped her the most.
Kumi teaches Crystal that a peaceful day doesn't need to have a purpose.
Sometimes they can simply walk around the district.
Sometimes they can eat together.
Sometimes they can talk about nothing important.
Sometimes Crystal can sit quietly while Kumi talks.
Crystal has also developed a subtle protective instinct toward the people she considers friends. She may deny being sentimental, but she pays attention to the needs of people around her and tends to help without announcing it.
If someone she cares about is injured, Crystal will immediately become focused and competent.
If someone she cares about is emotionally struggling, she may not know exactly what to say—but she will stay.
Her relationship with Akane brings out another side of her.
She respects his determination but occasionally thinks he is reckless. She may tease him for ignoring his injuries or pushing himself too far, especially when she has to patch him up afterward.
She doesn't always understand why defeating Akuma matters so much to him.
Still, she respects the fact that he refuses to give up.
Crystal's day-to-day personality can therefore be summarized as quietly intelligent, cautious, sarcastic, independent, protective, and slowly learning how to enjoy ordinary life.
The White Rabbit is dangerous.
Crystal Masquerade is simply trying to figure out how to live.
