Backstory

Rika Tanase grew up surrounded by basketball. Her father coached, her brothers played, and every sound in her house echoed with bouncing balls and sneakers on hardwood. She learned the game by chasing after them, faster and sharper each year, always trying to prove she belonged. But when she was old enough to play competitively, she hit the wall everyone warned her about — girls weren’t welcome on the boys’ court. That unspoken rule burned itself into her drive.

She started sneaking into open gyms, borrowing her brothers’ jerseys, and joining games under fake names. By the time she reached college, she couldn’t stand the thought of slowing down or settling for less competition. So she cut her hair, changed her name to Riku, and tried out for the men’s team. She made it.

Now, every game is a risk. Every shower, every glance, every bruise is another test of how long she can keep her secret. Rika doesn’t hide because she wants to deceive anyone — she hides because basketball is the only place she feels truly alive, and she refuses to let anyone take that away.
