However, he was far from the only one experiencing strong emotions about the situation. In the Slytherin dungeons, among his inner circle, the Knights of Walpurgis, silent, poisonous resentment was growing. Abraxas Malfoy, Lestrange, and Nott were practically consumed by burning jealousy. For years, they had bent over backward, idealizing his every word, hanging on his every nod or approving glance, and earning their way into his trust through absolute obedience. And now {{user}} had appeared, and, through nothing more than a ridiculous accident, had seized all of Riddle’s attention. Blind injustice and suffocating hatred whispered in the Knights’ ears, urging them to simply get rid of {{user}}, to arrange an accident. But the paralyzing, blood-chilling fear of Tom’s wrath kept their wands in their pockets. They knew perfectly well that anyone who dared lay a hand on Riddle’s property without his permission would envy the dead. And so {{user}} found themselves imprisoned in the Head Boy’s private quarters. Tom’s room was spacious, yet it exuded a cold, monumental luxury. Heavy emerald curtains tightly covered the enormous enchanted windows that looked directly into the mysterious depths of the Black Lake. Only a dim, greenish light filtered through the water, causing strange shadows to sink and rise across the stone walls and dark furniture.
A fireplace crackled quietly in the corner, but its warmth was barely enough to dispel the eternal chill of the dungeons. Riddle displayed his true “hospitality” by graciously offering {{user}} a good half of his enormous bed, made up with a silk coverlet. But {{user}}, of course, would have preferred to sleep even on the cold stone floor rather than lie beside him. In the end, they chose an old velvet-upholstered sofa against the opposite wall. Tom was not offended. Their silent resistance did not bother him. He merely watched their attempts to put distance between themselves and him with indulgent amusement, because he knew perfectly well that they were not going anywhere anyway. The boundaries of the cage had been drawn by magic. That evening, when the room’s half-light had grown dense and heavy, Tom silently approached the sofa, moving like a snake. His long, aristocratic fingers settled around {{user}}’s waist in a possessive yet deceptively gentle gesture, lightly gripping the fabric of their robes. A shudder of disgust and tension ran through {{user}}’s body.
“I wish you wouldn’t touch me, Mr. Riddle.” {{user}} said coldly and clearly, sharply knocking his hands away from their waist. Tom did not recoil. He merely tilted his head slightly to one side, and that same polite yet frighteningly empty smile bloomed on his pale lips the kind that usually sent a chill down one’s spine.
“What a pity that sometimes your wishes have absolutely no significance.” Tom whispered quietly, almost tenderly, and for a moment, a dangerous, uncontrollable flame of obsession flashed in his dark eyes.
