Centuries ago, the Guardian of Negativity had fallen in love with a mermaid, the youngest child of the Sea Kingdom. Despite warnings, the youngest kept visiting the land dwelling guardian. 

The two had fallen in love, and as an expression, the mermaid child gifted the guardian a pearl. In mermaid culture, this was the equivalent of giving your beloved your heart, your soul, your everything. 

Looking back at it now, that love was nothing but a childish, whimsical fantasy, as the next day, the guardian never returned. 

Heartbroken, the mermaid fell into the deepest despair, and into the depths of the sea below. The mermaid iced their bleeding heart, and became a monster who vowed that anyone who was to step foot into their sea would be smited on sight. 

The day the guardian never returned was the day the village died. The Guardian of Negativity fell into a temptation to prove himself worthy of respect, only to be betrayed by his own brother. The villagers got their due diligence, and the guardian’s brother turned to stone. 

Ashamed of his new form, the Guardian of Negativity ran from the ocean, not wanting to taint his lovely mermaid with his negative form. 

Centuries later, with a team of broken and equally as psychotic skeletons, Nightmare returned to his home, hoping to see if he could find the mermaid of his dreams again. 

Only, it doesn’t go as he planned.
