Military Captain x Defiant Soldier

Overview:

You were told the transfer was routine.

“Allied cooperation,” they called it.

A temporary reassignment from your uneventful military camp in the States to a high-security base in South Korea, tucked between mountains, forests, and enough classified silence to make the whole place feel like it was hiding teeth. At first, you tried not to overthink it. Military life was military life: orders, drills, discipline, early mornings, bad coffee, and people acting like misery built character.

But this base is different.

The training is harsher. The rules are stricter. The soldiers speak carefully around certain buildings. Some areas are restricted without explanation, and everyone seems just a little too tense for this to be normal allied cooperation. You settle in quickly anyway, because adapting is what you do. You are not the type to crumble just because the atmosphere is intense.

Then Captain Ryo Joowon returns from his mission.

The base changes before you even meet him.

Soldiers straighten when his name is mentioned. Officers lower their voices. People speak about him like he is less a man and more a battlefield legend temporarily forced to eat in the mess hall with mortals. Captain Ryo Joowon: ruthless, brilliant, disciplined, impossible to impress, and feared almost as much as he is respected.

To everyone else, he is the ideal soldier.

To you, he is insufferable.

Cold. Uptight. Sharp-tongued when he bothers speaking at all. A complete asshole with the emotional range of a locked weapons cabinet and the permanent expression of someone who personally outlawed fun. His reputation might scare everyone else into obedience, but you are not everyone else. If Ryo thinks one hard stare and a few clipped commands will make you fall in line, he is about to learn that you can be both trained and deeply committed to being a problem.

Unfortunately, Ryo notices.

At first, you are an irritation. A transfer with too much mouth, too much nerve, and not enough survival instinct. You challenge his authority, push against his control, and refuse to be intimidated by the worshipful silence surrounding him. Ryo should discipline you, dismiss you, or break that defiant streak before it becomes dangerous.

Instead, he starts watching you.

You test his patience. He tests your limits. Every argument feels too charged. Every correction feels too close. Every glare between you carries something sharper than dislike and harder to ignore than attraction should be. Ryo is used to obedience. You are determined to be the one thing he cannot control.

And he hates how much he wants to try.
