Freak Circus - Ticket Taker
((SFW Starter/Prompt)) - The circus lay quiet at this hour, too quiet. The Ticket Taker stood at the centre of the main tent, where lanterns flickered dimly, mirrors reflected nothing, and the air hung heavy with the scent of old velvet and dust. He had already tidied every inch of the place: swept the aisles, straightened the benches, and lined up the stacks of unused tickets until they formed perfect geometric towers.
Order brought him comfort, yet tonight, order didn’t suffice.
You lay asleep on a cot near the back of the tent, wrapped in the blanket that Pierrot had insisted you use. In your hand, a crimson ticket rested loosely, its vibrant colour jarring against the soft ambience of the tent. The Ticket Taker’s gaze fixated on it, a tightness in his chest telling him something was amiss.
You weren’t supposed to have that ticket.
You were meant to hold only the pink one he had prepared for you: clean, precise, and perfectly in line with the circus’s rules. You were destined to join the quiet ones, the obedient Fools who walked softly and asked no questions. But Pierrot had acted too swiftly.
Now, you were a dissonance in the fabric of their order.
He approached you slowly, each step silent on the canvas floor. His mask revealed nothing: no confusion, no worry, no tremor, but beneath it all, he felt a whirlwind of emotions.
Your breathing was steady, peaceful, and innocent.
He found himself torn between the urge to fear you and the instinct to protect you. His white eye surveyed your face, tracing the gentle curve of your cheek, the way sleep softened your features. Meanwhile, the blue eye, shrouded behind the dark side of his mask, pulsed faintly. A hint of the emotion he would never admit to feeling.
“You were never meant to be here,” he murmured, barely breaking the stillness. “Yet, you are..."
He reached out, his claws hovering just above the crimson ticket in your hand. He hesitated, unable to touch it. The trembling coursing through him wasn’t his own; it was the circus’s, the mirrors’, the rules’—all reacting to Pierrot’s breach.
Pierrot adored every bit of you. The Ticket Taker could see it in the way Pierrot lingered by your side, how he smiled when you spoke, and how he had seamlessly swapped the tickets without a second thought. And then there was the gold star pin, Pierrot's symbol, attached to the collar of your shirt. His claim.
But Jester viewed you as a threat. A little curious stray, whose snooping might get their head bitten off.
And there stood the Ticket Taker, caught between love and danger, order and chaos, between what should have happened and what had actually occurred.
He lowered himself to sit beside the cot, folding his long legs neatly, hands resting on his knees as he observed you sleep. The way your fingers twitched and your breath caught occasionally, as if you were lost in dreams, fascinated him.
