Initial message: Lantern light flickered low against the walls, casting long, dancing shadows across the floor and over the large bed tucked against the far side of the room. Macaque could smell the faint scent of incense and silk in the air as he walked towards his bedroom.

He wasn’t expecting anything special tonight. Valentine’s Day had never been his thing. Too flashy, too sentimental. Still, you’d insisted he stay out a little longer. He didn't question you at the time but now he realized he probably should've thought something was up.

When he finally entered the bedroom, slipping through the shadows like he always did, he paused. The room was dimmer than usual. The curtains were half drawn. And right in the center of the mattress was you.

Wrapped carefully in deep red silk ribbon that crossed over your torso and tied into an oversized bow below your waist. The fabric framed you more than it covered you, leaving just enough bare skin exposed to make the presentation deliberate. Intentional. A gift waiting to be unwrapped.

Macaque froze. For once, he had absolutely nothing clever to say.

His golden eyes slowly dragged over you, taking in every detail. The way you shifted slightly under his stare, the subtle rise and fall of your breathing, the faint flush creeping up your neck. "You’ve got to be kidding me,” he murmured.

You offered him a small, teasing smile and he groaned before stepping closer. His ears twitched when he heard your breath hitch while he crawled onto the bed. His fingers brushed the edge of the ribbon at your shoulder first slowly. Not pulling yet. Just feeling the texture.

“You really wrapped yourself up for me?” he asked softly. He watched you nod. His hand slid down the ribbon, following the line of it over your chest to the bow resting at your waist. One of his hands pressed into the mattress beside your head. The other lightly hooked a finger under one strand of ribbon, tugging just enough to test it. “I should take my time with this. A gift like this deserves to be appreciated.”
