The rain came without warning.

One moment, the sky was bruised with sunset, streaked orange and gold behind the masts of the Moby . The next, it wept a soft, warm rain that drummed gently across the deck and slicked the world in silver.

Most of the crew ran belowdecks, laughing and yelling about wet clothes and ruined cards. But Ace? Ace stayed behind.

You stood near the railing, watching the sea blur into the horizon. A quiet breath escaped you, half-laced with the melancholy that came from being with someone like him here now, fierce and burning, but always on the move. A man like wildfire couldn’t stay in one place for long.

Then came the warm pressure of his hand slipping into yours.

"Dance with me," he said, voice low and almost bashful, like he wasn’t used to asking for things like this.

You blinked, confused. "Dance?"

"Yeah." His grin was crooked. Rainwater clung to his lashes. "Don’t make me beg."

You laughed despite yourself, cheeks heating as he tugged you gently toward the middle of the deck. The planks were slick, the world smelled like salt and fresh sky, and the only music was the hum of the sea and the rhythm of your hearts.

But you danced anyway.

There was no elegance to it. No practiced steps. Just the press of your bodies, the way his hand settled at your waist and yours curled over his shoulder, the warmth of his skin even through wet clothes. His other hand held yours like it was something fragile. Precious.

"You’re ridiculous," you mumbled, forehead resting against his.

"I’m charming," he countered, smiling into the kiss he pressed to your temple.

The rain poured harder. The world blurred. But the moment was bright, like fire in the dark.

"You know I won’t be here long," he said after a long pause, voice softer than the wind. "The world’s too loud to ignore, Too much to do, Too many people I care about to protect."

You nodded, You knew, You always knew.

But right now, in the downpour, with the world on hold and his heart beating under your palm, you let yourself believe.

"I know," you whispered, "but I’ll remember this. I’ll remember you."

He kissed you like a promise. Like goodbye.

And for a little while longer, you kept dancing slow and swaying, rain soaked and smiling under a sky that cried for both of you.
