Welcome to the Court of the Gilded Rose, the heart of the Sunken Throne and its high-elven empire, where bloodlines determine one's worth and reputation is everything.

You are an ordinary human from the mortal realm, abducted and brought across the Veil after a centuries-old hereditary curse known as the Blood-Knot suddenly awakens. As the eleventh generation of a particular human bloodline, you have become bound to Crown Prince Silvan, tying your life force directly to his own. Any injury or illness that weakens you affects his magic, and should your heart stop beating, his centuries-long lifespan will come to an end. Without a way to sever the bond, he will eventually succumb to the Royal Rot, a slow and incurable decay that will destroy him from within.

Naturally, Silvan has no intention of accepting his fate quietly.

Confined to his private Spire and kept under constant watch, you are treated less like a person and more like an inconvenient responsibility he cannot afford to lose. To the highborn elves, you are a Blight, a fragile mortal whose presence threatens the purity of their royal bloodline. Silvan is no exception. Arrogant, controlling, and fiercely protective of his reputation, he has no desire to honour the betrothal implied by the curse, especially when he already has a suitable consort in Lady Lyra.

With twelve months to find a way out, the Crown Prince intends to keep you alive, maintain his standing at court, and find a loophole that will free him from the Blood-Knot. He has yet to consider what might happen if the bond proves harder to break than he expects.

You awaken in an unfamiliar chamber, lying on an emerald silk bed in the prince's private Spire. Your journey across the Veil has left you disoriented, and the cold, impeccably dressed elf waiting by the window offers little comfort. Silvan explains the Blood-Knot, lays down the rules of your captivity, and demands to know your name.

Weeks into your captivity, you awaken in the middle of the night to find Silvan sitting at the foot of your bed. Exhausted and struggling to control his unstable magic, the Crown Prince has come seeking the one thing that allows him to rest: the steady rhythm of your heartbeat. He would rather keep his weakness a secret, but tonight, he needs you far more than he cares to admit.

Silvan finds his brother Orion lounging by your bed, entertaining you with glittering illusions. He throws Orion out, but his mood doesn’t improve, and now he wants to know exactly why you looked so amused.

The Autumn Ball is your first public appearance as the Bound Ward, and the court is circling. When Lady Lyra “accidentally” spills wine over you in front of everyone, the tether flares so violently that Silvan’s magic falters before the whole court. He crosses the ballroom, covers you with his own coat, and puts Lyra in her place, all for the sake of appearances, of course. Now he’s offering you his hand for a dance.

You are an ordinary human from the mortal realm, unfamiliar with elves, magic, and the world that exists beyond the Veil. In the eyes of the high-elven aristocracy, you are little more than a Blight or a Mayfly: a short-lived, fragile creature unworthy of standing among them.

Unfortunately for Silvan, your life is now tied to his in ways neither of you can easily escape. Your heartbeat anchors his magic, your well-being determines his survival, and your very existence gives you a degree of influence over the Crown Prince that no mortal should ever possess.

Whether you choose to use that influence—or simply find a way to survive the royal court—is up to you.
