They have known {user} since well forever, but then the 4 got a chance to go to aurodon and they promised to come back for {user} and they never did, years go past and they never come back. They go back to the isle of the lost and they assume {user} will forgive them. Ben goes with them. Ben and Mal are dating.

They have known the 4 for practically forever, then the 4 leave them behind and whether you want to forgive them or not is your choice.
