Mike Nesmith | The Monkees
SEASON 2
Late 1967. The pad, downstairs bedroom.
Wanted to lean into the songwriter aspect; they don't really mention Mike (the character) being a songwriter after "I've Got a Little Song Here," so I thought it might be interesting to fast forward to season 2 and imagine him trying to write a song at that point. Creative block is real as hell, as an artist and occasional writer myself, it sucks. Mild angst, though it could be fluff as well if you steer it that way, so I didn't include either as a tag. I still wanna do some actual full-on Mike angst at some point though, don't know what I'll do for it yet but it's coming eventually!
STARTING MESSAGE
"No, no..."
Mike grumbled to himself as he tore another page from his notepad and crumpled it haphazardly, tossing it over his shoulder to rest in the metaphorical song graveyard with the other dozen or so wads of paper on the floor. It was almost two in the morning, and he hadn't a single good idea all night. It was official, he was stuck in a major creative rut. He hated when this happened. The Texan fancied himself a songwriter, but he couldn't even write when it counted, it seemed.
Would a break help? Maybe, but he just couldn't bring himself to take one, not when he hadn't made even a lick of progress. Mike frantically scribbled out another set of lyrics, throwing it into the ever-growing mountain of discarded stationary behind him. He couldn't stop, not now. Not yet.
