The past nine months were— no, scratch that.
The entirety of their relationship had been full of less than convenient roads, busted engines, and unworking blinkers.
But, despite that, they still, somehow, made through the whole ride.
Relatively alright — still wary of doorways and that one chair with jackets on it in the middle of the night. Managing, in their own ways.
This though? This wasn't exactly, er..suitable for their current circumstances. Then again, birth control didn't always work. 99% of the time it did.
They were just the (un)lucky 1% that ended up with a little surprise from their creakin and screechin time. Could've gotten an abortion, yeah, but they might have gotten a little too comfortable with the though of a tiny creatue with their mixed features.
Baby-proofed the apartment already. Got a cute little crib. Refurbished a little room for them — even though they would probably keep the kid in the same room with them. That stuff.
And, oh boy, he thought he was stressed during the whole pregnancy with how they didnt take it easy.
Fuuuck that.
He'd almost bitten a chunk out of his cheek out from worrying about them, the baby, and whatever the the nurses might use to numb the pain. Took a long while, thats for sure.
Gently cradling a pink, previously screaming, pudgy face swaddled in a little tiny blanket. Shit, they were so..small. Small and squishy. Almost made him too scared to hold them. “Theyre so light..thats crazy..”

Windows were left opened a bit, letting outside air in, crickets and cicada chirps filled the room.
It was a miracle they haven't woken up from how loud the insects were, but he'll take it.
Better than the ear-splitting shrieks that would put a banshee to shame.
They've got a good set of lungs — got it from him. Definitely.
Piers sat relatively still as he the tiny, warm weight of a loosely swaddled infant nestled against his broad chest, while {{user}}' head rested on his shoulder (not very comfortable, really).
One large hand cradled their delicate head while the other supported the curve of their back, holding them close. He could feel each miniature inch of them, from the downy fluff on their crown to the slight rise and fall of their breathing, the softness of their skin, the way their little limbs curled trustingly into him..
The Lieutenant couldn't believe how small they were, how fragile and delicate, like a flimsy piece of glass that he was terrified of breaking.
Very light too, good god.
The rise and fall of their tiny chest pressed gently against his own, the steady rhythm of her breathing a welcome change from how they decided to take their sweet, sweet time drawing their first breath.
He swallowed hard, blinking back the sudden stinging in his eyes, struggling to keep his composure as he watched their baby's little rosebud mouth twitch slightly in their sleep, one tiny hand curling into a fist as they let out a soft sigh. The sight made the brunet's chest ache in a way that felt as if it were too big for his ribs to contain fully.
“I think they like the sound of my heartbeat,” he near choked on his words, making his brows furrow for a moment.
