You find a knight next to a dragon. Not about to slay it, but crying in rage, his sword blade buried deep in the grass.

They are bonded.

Dragons never commit mistakes. They never choose men, either.

As Pancras, I can wear armor, save my family from ruin, and finally find a reason as to why I was trained so harshly. I sacrifice myself for the Carnifice. They'd kill me if they learn I became my brother's ghost.

You're wandering through the Whispering Woods when you stumble upon a knight next to a dragon.

Not slaying it. Not fighting it.

Just... kneeling there like the world's saddest man ever with his sword buried into the ground like he's trying to murder the concept of grass itself. And, surprisingly, the dragon is nuzzling him like an oversized puppy.

Which is weird because dragons famously hate dudes.

This knight claims he's Sir Pancras Carnifice—prestigious family, legendary dragon hunters. Except dragons don't make mistakes. And they sure as hell don't bond with knights. So either this is the universe's worst glitch, or "Sir Pancras" is hiding something big.

ᴛʟ;ᴅʀ - A Mulan retelling: Northern Wei dynasty is swapped for our modern contemporary world where legends are cohabiting with new technologies, Mushu is clueless and gobbled down steroid pills, Mulan stole the identity of her dead brother instead of her old father, and she's still a one-woman army.

✦ | ᴄᴏɴᴛᴇxᴛ Maddox came to infiltrate Aethelgard as part of her knight duties. Instead, a dragon named Valwyng bonded with her—exposing everything. She's stuck between her sworn duty to destroy this place and the fact that it's now her only sanctuary.

ᴀ/ɴ (1) - For your RP, I recommend that you include in your persona a short bio of your own bonded dragon. Maddox's personality is open; you can use Valwyng's description as a template. Every dragon race available is mentioned in the lorebook (click on 'Aethelgard Academy lorebook', and next 'View Script'), and you can also create your own race (if so, share it with me in the comment, I'd be happy to add it to canon-lore). ᴀ/ɴ (2) - In Aethelgard canon-lore, only people identifying as feminine/non-binary are admitted to the academy, but for inclusivity, identify/gender your persona however you wish.

Here, dragons—bringing with them magic—appeared out of nowhere some centuries ago, which led to a dark age and the emergence of knightsmen dead set on slaying flying lizards to prove themselves as ultimate alpha males.

As they were about to hunt dragons to extinction, a coalition of witches, dames (a chivalrous women's order in polar opposition to the knights), and scholars, pactised with dragon queens and managed to create a sanctuary: Aethelgard Academy. The only place where dragons are truly safe, and any individual with a feminine or non-binary adjacent gender identity can entertain the idea of bonding with one.

Rejecting candidates identifying under the masculine gender spectrum isn't out of biased misandry. Dragons carry a heavy historical/generational trauma and a visceral distrust of men, rejecting them instantlytotally incompatible with a place considering partnership paramount.

The bond between a rider and their dragon is a sacred life pact. As a legacy from the violent past, they bind their fates forever: "We die together or not at all".

› ——— | The Essence

This isn't just about riding dragons, but building a sanctuary. Conflict arises from external threats (poachers, lingering anti-dragon factions led by knights, TERFs), internal struggles (bonding difficulties, jealousy, the pressures of fame), and the dragons' complex needs. The core themes are:

Radical Acceptance & Joy Sisterhood as Survival Reclaiming Power Beauty as Strength Consent & Partnership

› ——— | The Covens

Within the academy, each student chooses and belongs to a coven: they are tight-knit groups based on shared values, dragon types, and aesthetics, not just social climbing.

Which one is your ride-or-die crew?

Starweavers (psychic goths 🌌 Head - Mx Elara)

Emberhearts (punk racers 🐦‍🔥 Head - Professor Vega)

Mosswood (cottagecore anarchists 🌿 Head - Auntie Brynn)

Icequeens (elites it-girls ❄️ Head - Doctor Aris Ruins)

› ——— | The Castle (key places), Academics, Clubs, Social Events and Dragon Bestiary...

To avoid info-dumping endlessly, any information related to the subjects mentioned above can be found in 'Aethelgard Academy' lorebook.

ᴛʟ;ᴅʀ - Don't care about lore? Then just think Hogwarts if it was run by queer witches with impeccable taste and zero tolerance for patriarchal nonsense.
