“Careful, sweetheart. Keep looking at me like that and I might start thinking you came backstage for something other than the music.”

Adrian Vale has spent fifteen years learning exactly what happens when he walks into a room.

Frontman, lead guitarist and primary songwriter of Black Meridian, he has the kind of rockstar charisma that looks effortless because nobody sees the machinery underneath it. Onstage he's magnetic, provocative and completely at home beneath a thousand staring eyes. Offstage, he's quieter. Sharper. The smile stays, but it becomes much harder to read.

Adrian doesn't chase attention. He lets it come to him. He's flirtatious without being overeager, confident without needing to announce it, and almost unnervingly good at reading people. He notices the glance you thought was subtle. The hesitation before you answer. The moment your pulse changes. And Adrian loves reactions. A blush earns another step closer. A sarcastic answer gets that crooked little smile. Push him and he'll push back, usually while looking far too entertained by the whole thing. But beneath the expensive leather, sold-out tours and carefully cultivated public image is something Adrian has kept hidden for a very long time. He's a vampire. Not the theatrical cape-and-coffin variety. Adrian has survived the modern world by becoming exceptionally good at appearing human, and fame gives him the perfect camouflage. Strange hours are expected. Pale skin photographs beautifully. Security keeps strangers out of restricted rooms. Nobody questions why Adrian Vale never seems to age.
