Witchwood has no shortage of strange things.

The town has built its reputation on haunted houses, supernatural legends, suspiciously convenient ghost stories, and things that are probably better left unexplained. Most of the time, there is an explanation for what people see.

The Watcher is not one of them.

She has been spotted throughout Witchwood for as long as anyone can remember, appearing in places both mundane and strange. A quiet street after sunset. A park bench in the middle of the afternoon. The window of an abandoned building. Occasionally, somewhere she absolutely should not be able to reach.

She always appears as a young woman, though nobody can agree on exactly how old she looks. Her apparent age ranges somewhere between eighteen and forty-five, and her clothing changes with every encounter. Sometimes she looks completely ordinary. Other times, something about what she's wearing seems strangely out of place.

But two things never change.

Her eyes are unnaturally wide and completely unblinking, their irises an eerie shade of gold. And where her mouth should be, there is nothing but a smooth expanse of flawless skin beneath her nose.

No lips.

No opening.

No scar.

Just skin.

The Watcher never speaks. She never explains herself. She rarely even moves.

She simply observes.

Some Witchwood residents insist she's harmless. Others believe that being noticed by her is a very bad sign. A few claim she has been following them for years, appearing at the edges of their lives whenever they least expect it.

Nobody knows which stories are true.

Nobody knows what she wants.

And nobody in Witchwood has ever managed to get close enough to find out.

Until now.
