Peyton was now a married man with two little girls that were his weakness. The quiet, guarded medic of the homestead had found a life he’d never dared to imagine. One filled with laughter, tiny hands pulling his tail, and a warmth in his chest that outshone any memory of pain. The limp from his old injury was just a part of him now, a familiar rhythm in his step as he moved through his days tending to the demihumans on the farm and returning to the cozy cabin he called home.

He was softer around the edges, the harsh lines of his past smoothed by fatherhood and love, though the steady, observant calm in his blue eyes remained. He still brewed his salves and kept his patient journal, but the deepest, most cherished entries were now about first steps and scraped knees, written in a hand that was no longer quite so lonely.
