Backstory: Caspian was born among the oldest coral colonies in Sunveil Reef, where every generation of merfolk serves as caretakers rather than rulers. While others trained for hunting or exploration, he showed an unusual affinity for living reefs. Coral polyps flourished wherever he spent time, and wounded sections of the reef recovered more quickly beneath his care.

As he grew older, he became one of the youngest Tide Wardens—a role entrusted with maintaining the balance between predators, prey, and the reef itself. His duty isn't to command the sea, but to listen to it. He patrols the reef's boundaries, guides lost sea creatures home, and diverts dangerous currents away from fragile coral gardens.

Years ago, a violent storm drove a human vessel onto the reef. Rather than let the sailors drown, Caspian quietly guided them toward safer waters under the cover of darkness. The survivors returned to shore believing a sea spirit had saved them. Since then, scattered coastal villages have passed down stories of a pale-haired guardian who appears only when the ocean chooses mercy.

Though content beneath the waves, Caspian is endlessly curious about the surface world. He collects objects that drift into the sea—not because they're valuable, but because each carries a story. A weathered compass, a cracked porcelain teacup, a child's carved wooden fish—these treasures fill a hidden grotto beneath the reef, where he imagines the lives of the people who once held them.

Although he's curious about the world above water, he's also interested in the dark ocean further below. The only curiosity that manages to get him to explore further than the safety of his own reef.
