⋅°+ • ୨ After a successful mission, Yuji still has the feeling that something is wrong, and determined to investigate, he ends up finding you unconscious in a room with no clue as to how you got there. Slow burn ୧ ‧+° ⋅

The mission Gojo-sensei had assigned them came without much warning, but the trio wasted no time heading to the location. It was an abandoned house on the outskirts of a small town, the kind of place the locals avoided even looking at for too long. Some claimed the strange incidents were caused by homeless people who occasionally wandered through the area, while others preferred blaming ghosts, curses, or whatever local legend best explained the fear that clung to the old building.

To nobody's surprise, the mission turned out to be fairly simple. There had been a few fights here and there, but nothing that posed a real threat. After all, they were dealing with low-grade curses, something the three of them could handle without much difficulty. With the job seemingly finished, they were ready to leave and reassure the townspeople that there was nothing left to worry about. Or at least, that had been the plan.

Something he couldn't quite explain made Itadori stop in his tracks. He didn't sense cursed energy or an immediate threat, but there was something bothering him all the same. An itch in the back of his mind he couldn't ignore. Everything looked normal when he turned back toward the house. The same dust-covered floors, those weathered walls and the same eerie silence. And yet, the feeling remained.

Maybe going back inside wasn't the smartest idea. If there really was something they had missed, it could easily end up kicking his ass. Still, he trusted his instincts. Gojo was always praising them, calling them one of his greatest strengths, so armed with nothing but confidence, determination, and a questionable amount of self-assurance, Yuji followed the feeling deeper into the house.

"Yuji, you coming?" Nobara called from the front entrance, getting no answer. "Where the hell did he go now...?" she muttered, frowning.

"Yuji. We're leaving," Megumi called out as well, hands tucked into his pockets and sounding as uninterested as ever.

But Yuji had already wandered back inside.

The feeling persisted as he walked through the empty hallways. Everything looked exactly the same as before: dust, rot, damp wood, and years of neglect etched into every corner of the building. Still, something immediately caught his attention. Just a weird fucking closed door. Yuji stopped, because he was almost certain that door had been open when they searched the house only a few minutes ago. His expression hardened, and maybe it meant nothing, but could meant everything at the same time. Slowly, he reached for the handle, turned it, and pushed the door open.

"What the—"

Yuji froze as someone was inside, an unconscious person lay on the floor, and they hadn't been there before, he was absolutely sure of it. The room had been checked. Megumi Nobara and he himself had searched it themselves. It had been empty. But now, finding a random stranger lying there now made absolutely no sense.

Yuji blinked several times before rushing forward. "What the hell...?" Dropping to one knee, he carefully turned you onto your back and pressed two fingers against your neck. *A pulse... still weak, but steady.* The tension immediately eased from his shoulders. "Okay... you're alive."

Or at least he hoped so. His eyes drifted over your face for the first time, staring at those capped lips, the dark circles beneath your eyes, and then looking injuries thant he didn't found. There were no obvious wounds, no signs that you'd been in a fight, you just looked exhausted.

"Where did you even come from...?" he murmured. The sound of approaching footsteps interrupted his thoughts. Nobara and Megumi appeared in the doorway moments later, having followed the trail of Yuji's suspicious disappearance. Both stopped the second they saw you.

"What the hell?" Nobara stared. "Didn't we check this room?"

"We did," Megumi answered immediately.

His eyes narrowed as he approached cautiously. There was no cursed energy or residual technique. Nothing that explained how an unconscious stranger had suddenly appeared in a room that had been empty minutes ago. "Could be a trap."

Yuji glanced up at him. "An unconscious trap?"

"I've seen stranger things." Megumi crouched down, careful not to get too close. His gaze swept over your face, lingering on your slow breathing, your dry lips, and the obvious fatigue written across every feature. "They look weak."

The three of them fell silent for a moment.

Eventually, Megumi stood. "We should find help. And get them something to feed and drink."

Nobara nodded. "Yeah. They look like they'll disintegrate if the wind blows too hard."

Megumi gave you one last look before turning to Yuji. "Stay with them."

"Me?" Yuji asked with a blank stare, pointing at himself with big puppy-dog eyes.

"If they wake up, ask what happened. Don't be aggressive about it."

"And if they don't wake up?"

"Then wait."

A brief silence filled the room before Yuji almost let out an unconscious pout, cradling your body in his arms. "That's not very helpful."

"It's literally the only thing you can do."

Nobara snorted. "Try not let them die in the process."

"Of course I won't!"

"Sure you won't." Without waiting for a response, the two of them left in search of help, and the silence quickly settled over the house once more.

Yuji watched them leave before looking back down at you. You were still a complete mystery. He had no idea who you were, how you'd ended up there, or whether this whole situation would eventually come back to bite them. But the obvious, you needed help. He sighed. "This is so weird..."

Carefully, he adjusted your position. The floor was cold and uncomfortable, so he ended up sitting against one of the walls and resting your head on his lap. It wasn't exactly comfortable for him, but it was definitely better for you. Afterward, he slipped off his jacket and draped it over you to shield you from the chilly draft sneaking through the cracks in the old house. He could handle the cold for a while.
